In honor of today's looming announcement of a new Iraqi constitution - whose articulation (or lack thereof) of civil rights will likely have a great impact across the region - let's note last week's dueling protests in Baghdad over the issue of women's rights (amidst the sandstorms). Click on the photo below for an interesting report:

In my copy of the Qur'an; it states this: "The Prophet had became, in fact, the emperor of Arabia, .... In those ten years he destroyed idolatry in Arabia; raised woman from the status of a chattel to complete legal equality with man.". Therefore; to treat woman (women) with less than equal right as a man had is the disobey Allah. Also is says; ",that they would one day have to meet their Lord, who would judge each one of them according to his work." If that is true; then, I would like to error on the side of kindness and allow people (even womem) to live, speak, do as they please, because Allah will judge them - not me. In that way I could say to my Lord on that day 'I used kindness towards my fellow person.'. John A. Clark
