This post's title doesn't just reference the old commercial for Time-Life's "Songs of the 1960s" special collection. It's a shout out to the pop group Orkideh - eight young women who will be rocking the house next week in Tehran (Thursday, Dec. 17, and Friday, Dec. 18, at 3
p.m. in the Vahdat Hall - for those who will be in town).
Nader Davoodi provides the info on his excellent photo-blog. "Due to legal limitations in Iran they will be performing for women only," Davoodi notes. "I hope that women and young girls in Tehran will take advantage of this opportunity. Unfortunately, chances are slim for such concerts happening or being repeated in Iran."
Ah, yes, Iran - where the freedom to rock is not guaranteed. At best, it's allowed only for same-sex audiences, and even then shows are often closed down by the Morality Police. Nonetheless, Orkideh look pretty hip - with their matching outfits evoking early 1960s Beatles get-ups (with light-blue hijabs a special Iranian touch). Now if we can only get to do a double-bill with Glam Insane...
really like it!
thanks!
