Musings: How to process the bizarre scenes that have engulfed parts of Egypt over the past few days? Most surprising has been the general lack of interest from Western reporters and pundits. Was it simply that Petreus Senate hearings rule supreme in news selection? Or could it be that we are tired of hearing about reform in the Middle East, hopes being raised and then dashed too many times? The week's events could, in retrospect, mark a seminal moment - a huge breakthrough after a few years of relative quiet. Maybe not, but we should at least be debating out loud, no?
Yep, but it doesn't fit in with the US democracy-spreading "cure-all," due to the potential consequences of pushing for truer democracy in Egypt due to the Muslim Brotherhood side of it.

Reporters do care about what is happening in Egypt. Unfortunately the managers of western news organisations have lost touch with what really matters, as opposed to what sells. As a reporter in the field who profoundly cares about the struggle of the long-suffering people of Egypt for dignity and freedom and democracy (real democracy, not the Bush version, which is just a cover for western political and corporate domination and normalisation), I can guarantee you I would have covered it (if I had been there).

It has been covered in the Christian Science Monitor (Bread murders) and (I think) the Washington Post. No it has not been covered as much as it should be, but on the other hand, Egypt is not the only country with these problems. There is a diary, in the Daily Kos, about the international food crisis, with links to articles about numerous countries, including Egypt. Here's the link: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/4/10/81213/2770/133/493114
This is an international problem, including the USA. Farmers have converted from wheat to corn for ethanol, which is making the situation worse. Of course, we haven't had riots yet, but I think my country is in for a big whopper - so-to-speak.

For several years in the 1980s, the weight of the Whopper was increased to 1/3 lb. The bun was also replaced by a Kaiser roll. The Whopper reverted to the original formulation a few years later. The "Third Pound Whopper" made a return in the early 2000s, but has since been discontinued again.

Maybe if there a war in Egypt the American reporters would be more interesting in what's happening there. But this place has much information to give because it's a culture with to much stories to tell

I hate everything related to misunderstandings, 'Cuz that really sucks. I clearly see that we must try to live like of we were in a brotherhood time instead of being looking for another senseless war.
